Francois Sicart | 50 Years on Wall Street | Book: Luck is Not Enough | Wealth Preservation: Handling Sudden Wealth | Learning from Three Continents | Contrarian Investing

My guest today is Mr. Francois Sicart, my partner, and mentor. We have spent countless hours talking about money, wealth, and investing, but this is our first recorded conversation ever. He shares stories of his late mentor, his early days on Wall Street half a century ago, and thoughts on successfully handling the sudden arrival of wealth.

Mr. Sicart graduated from HEC Paris and immigrated to the United States in 1969, where he joined Tucker Anthony as an assistant before rising to the general partner. He founded Tocqueville Asset Management, growing it into a prestigious money management firm before leaving to start a thriving boutique company, Sicart Associates, with three other partners. He has fifty years of experience managing individual clients' accounts and their family affairs and has sat on a number of bank and investment fund boards. He divides his time between New York, Paris, and Mexico.

We’ll talk about:

  • The challenges of sudden wealth, whether inherited or created.

  • From the 70s to 2020s, 50 years on Wall Street, what has changed, and what remains the same.

  • Cultural sensibilities around money, family wealth, and elders across three continents, North America, Europe and Asia.

  • Being a trusted advisor offering calm, and peace in times of panic, and more.

  • Mr. Sicart’s wonderful book, Luck is not enough, the life and legacy of a successful wealth manager
